UnsTable Is a Perfect Place to Keep High-End Gear, Funerary Urns

By surrounding its thin (and hopefully sturdy) steel legs with movable blocks, the somewhat cleverly named UnsTable creates the illusion that it's on the verge of collapsing. The effect of the table depends almost entirely on what you're keeping on it. For example, the UnsTable as a baby changing table = Funny! The UnsTable as your workspace = stressful! The novelty would probably wear off pretty quickly, and the table doesn't have a great deal of mileage as a prank device. I mean, you've got to lure someone to your weird yellow desk, sit them down and have them scatter important, delicate items across its surface, just so you can sort of kick one of the legs to the side and make them think, for just a second, that their stuff would be broken. A more practical use? Putting it in your office to show everyone that you take needless risks on a daily basis, just like a real man. The Sonance Kayak Speaker: For the Living Room, Not the Rapids

I'm not quite sure where the name "Kayak" came from because it obviously does not resemble a small boat, but this speaker from Sonance is still a unique looking piece of equipment. The system was designed by the gurus at NACSound and they claim that the Kayak offers stereophonic sound from a single speaker (like numerous other manufacturers) thanks to an acoustic reflector suspended in the center. The Kayak can also be suspended horizontally or vertically depending on your needs. It cranks out a decent amount of sound at 60W with a sensitivity of about 86dB, but it will not come cheap at $2900. [Sonance via DVICE]

Peek Handheld: No Phone, No Frills, Just Email

I'm not sure if the Peek emailer is a great idea or a stupid one. Basically, the Peek is a stripped down handheld device with a QWERTY keyboard that does nothing but handle your email. The shaky logic behind the device is research that shows roughly 90% of email users are not checking their email on the go—but why they assume this group would forgo the cellphone they surely already have for yet another gadget is beyond me. Besides, the Peek is set to debut in Target on Sept 14th for $100 with T-Mobile service running $15 a month. That doesn't seem like a value to me. More »

Mythbusters Will "Prove" Moon Landing Wasn't a Hoax

A week from today the Mythbusters say they're going to tackle "one of the biggest myths of all": that the moon landing was a hoax. Um, isn't it the other way around? Waaay more people seem to think we took a tin can, loaded it up with rocket fuel and successfully shot ourselves to the moon and back. I'm not sure how showing how crappy your own fake moon landing looks proves anything, nor does going to NASA centers (the hoaxers themsleves!) for "evidence." Verdict: They're totally in on it. Palm's Treo Pro was announced today, and we just got one for ourselves. The most noticeable thing about it is how small and light and shiny it is for a Palm phone. As a comparison, it sits between the Blackberry Curve and the iPhone in terms of size. It has a Centro-style keyboard, except bigger, the flush touchscreen and like the Palm 800w, the hardware seems more than adequate to run WIndows Mobile 6.1. NYC Testing Out Beautiful LED Streetlights

New York City is testing a small batch of LED streetlights that redesign not only the light, but the entire lamppost as well. With current bulbs rated for about 24,000 hours, the new LED models, which rate for between 50,000 and 70,000 hours, would be a huge improvement. In addition to lasting longer, the LEDs would also use 25% to 30% less energy and emit no harmful chemicals when discarded. The initial test will only consist of a mere six new lampposts, but if it goes well look for the city to start slowly replacing the old versions with these fancy upgrades. Awesome.
